Choosing Legitimate Online Diplomas

Are you thinking of going to an online high school? If so, I have some words of warning for you. Be careful of misinformation on the internet. In one of the question and answer sites, I read where one person asked about virtual high schools, and was told that they were all fake. That is false information. There are actually hundreds of strong, legitimate online high schools to choose from.

One person asked if they should get a GED or an online high school diploma. The answer that popped up on top was that they should get a GED because online diplomas are not respected. This is also false. A diploma is more highly regarded than a GED. And the truth is that many online high schools have rigorous and challenging course work.

Really, your first task is to eliminate the fakes and focus on the legitimate online schools. Are you aware that if you get a job or promotion by presenting a fake diploma, you have committed fraud. You can be sued to pay back wages you earned through that fraud. If your employer is angry enough or is backed by tough lawyers, you could face even worse consequences.

My own daughter is attending online high school now. Her courses are not easy. It took me many days of shopping online to find a legitimate online high school for her. I dug through the websites, and ordered mailed information. I phoned them. Yes, I found plenty of fake schools, but there are also many good schools to choose from.

Telling the difference is not that difficult. Your initial impression of an online high school is probably from their website. Building a flashy, impressive website is not very difficult today. So you must dig deeper. The number one question that you should ask is what is required to get a diploma from this school.

What courses are required, if any? Diploma mills may try to cover up the fact that they require no coursework. Read a little more closely. If no coursework is required, you need to move on quickly, and scratch that one off your list. This is a tip off that you are looking at a fake school. Don’t be fooled by them asking you to take their qualification test, or to fill in “life experiences” instead of classes. There is no replacement for real courses. Also, the real GED is not given online, and their test is probably so easy a third grader could pass it. The school is fake.

Here is another tip. Diploma mills usually advertise the diploma for a set amount of money. They ask for a single payment. It might say, “Send us $300, and you will get this nice looking diploma.” A photo of their professional looking diploma may be shown. Of course you realize, that piece of paper is all you are going to get for your $300. Don’t take the bait.

The next thing that you should investigate is their accreditation. Valid accreditation can be checked at the Department of Education. Diploma mills have phony accreditations. Reputable accreditation agencies perform strict inspections of online schools. The strongest agencies are organized regionally. There are also good national agencies. These agencies are easy to check.

I know that there are people who temporarily get ahead using false diplomas, and degrees. Those of us who spent out sweat and blood to get real diplomas, and degrees will not be sympathetic. What these scammers are doing is a crime. Our legal system is getting better and better at finding and punishing these criminals. Getting a fake diploma can backfire in your face.
