Fluorescent Light Fixtures Buyer’s Advice
Saturday, July 3rd, 2010Anyone looking for a room with effective lighting may want to choose fluorescent light fixtures. While they may only be appropriate in certain environments, these units are very bright and reasonably priced.
Too many people think that all fluorescent light fixtures are the same, though this really isn’t the case. I’ve been buying different sets of fixtures for many years, so I’d like to share a few pieces of advice that may help you out through your process of buying them.
Without further ado, here are some things you’ll want to look out for.
Energy efficiency. Almost all fluorescent light fixtures are energy efficient, but it’s important to make sure that you get long lasting bulbs that won’t swallow you when it comes to paying your electric bill.
Brightness. Unfortunately, if you’re shopping online for this kind of lighting, you won’t be able to get the visual as far as brightness goes. You’ll need to go based on the opinions of others, but you can also look at the Lumens as a measurement as to how bright things may be.
Positioning of the lighting fixtures. This is a decision you’ll need to make on your own, but too many people seem to place their fluorescent lights either too high or too low relative to where they need them to be. This ends up causing glares if they’re too close, or not adequately lighting the space if they’re placed too high.
If you’re looking for fluorescent lights that dim, you shouldn’t expect the ones you buy to be able to do this. There may be varying levels of brightness, but dimming is rare. This isn’t to say that you can’t find them though.
Still, if you’re interested in getting dimming fluorescent lights, you can find these if you look for them specifically. You may have to shell out a few extra dollars, but they do exist.
